The ITIL Lite Construction Workshop

Based on the Malcolm Fry book - 'ITIL Lite - Road Map to Full or Partial ITIL v3 Implementation'

Who should attend the Workshop?

What makes a good Workshop?

10 Reasons why you should attend this Workshop

There are three key components that accompany this Construction Workshop:

1. The Book - The ‘ITIL Lite a road map to full or partial ITIL implementation’ is a best selling ITIL publication written and devised by Malcolm Fry it details all of the steps that you need to take to implement ITIL either full or partial. The book is easy to follow and is structured in a logical manner. Every delegate will GET A FREE COPY OF THE BOOK

2. The project Template – Malcolm has designed a Project Template to accompany the book which is used in this Construction Workshop. The Project Template is based around project management principles and is created in Excel so that you can easily amend or update it. The Project Template is also interactive so that all of the documentation required to build and manage your project are built into the Project Template. Not just a Project Template but also a single point for all documentation. Every delegate will GET A FREE COPY OF THE EXCEL BASED PROJECT TEMPLATE ALONG WITH ALL OF THE INCLUSIVE INTERACTIVE DOCUMENTATION.

3. The Construction Workshop Visual Aids – Sometimes when you get back from an educational event the slides and visual aids are vital reminders of the event which is why the workshop documentation INCLUDES A PDF COPY, FOR EACH DELEGATE, OF ALL OF THE SLIDES AND VISUAL AIDS USED DURING THE CONSTRUCTION WORKSHOP.

The Construction Workshop is a step by step Road Map to implementing full or partial ITIL implementation and as such follows a logical project influenced approach so that it describes a Road Map to partial or full ITIL implementation. At the end, and some times during, each of the steps listed here there will be Networking and/or Building opportunities so that lesson are endorsed and Project Templates are updated:

Process Design – there are many approaches to building process so we start this Construction Workshop with a process framework approach aimed specifically at ITIL and ITIL Lite. This framework teaches you to include the process actions, work instructions and quality controls.

Monitoring ITIL processes – next we move on to how to monitor and measure the processes in your ITIL Lite resource. Here we explain how to monitor both the performance and the quality of the process.

Building ITIL Lite processes – now that we have the concepts for process design and monitoring in place we now progress to explaining how to build processes around these concepts. This is an important step and teaches how you can easily and cheaply document your processes.

Categorizing ITIL v3 Components – here we discussed the need for categorizing ITIL components so that you get an even balanced approach. We used four categories here; Action, Influencing, Resourcing and Underpinning. These are clear classifications that enable you to understand how to adopt a balanced approach. To categorize the v3 Components we will need to briefly review all of the ITIL v3 Components which is ideal as an ITIL refresher or a simple but effective overview for those delegates not fully familiar with ITIL v3.

The Filtering Process – the whole idea of ITIL Lite is that you do not implement the whole of ITIL v3, at least in phase one, so now we explained how to filter the Components to eliminate those Components that you do not want to adopt. The filtering processes contains three distinct filtering categories; Essential, Potential and Rejected.

ITIL Lite Templates – the Processes have now been Categorized and Filtered but they are in a jumble with no real purpose which is why we will review a number of ITIL Lite Templates to help you to build a well structured ITIL Lite resource. These templates have been built to reflect some of the most common ITIL Lite implementations and provide a great discussion source. During the Networking opportunity in this segment delegates will be encouraged create/design their own templates.

Component Maturity – now that we have selected our ITIL Components the next step we take is to decide to which level we should implement those Components. To do this we discussed using Maturity Modelling and used PMF (Process Maturity Framework) from the Service Design book as our working example.

Component Priorities – the next logical step now is to decide in which order we should implement our ITIL Components. There are many approaches to deciding the implementation order of ITIL Lite Components these will be explained here along with their various merits and attributes. Delegates will have the chance to select the implementation order that they prefer for their needs.

Component Action Plan - here we explain how to build an easy to manage a Component Action Plan without the need for expensive technologies or specialized skills. A copy of the FLIP project template will have been issued to all delegates at the beginning of the Construction Workshop so although we will formally discuss the Component Action Plan at this point delegates will already have some degree of familiarity at this point.

Gap Analysis – now we have a running order for the implementation of our ITIL Lite Components we know explain how to identify the Gap between Actual Component Maturity and Target Components Maturity. This Gap then forms the basis for the workload and expenditure to implement a Component, this should be repeated for every Component if your version of ITIL Lite.

Master Action Plan – here we explain how to build an easy to manage a Master Action Plan that allows us to oversee the whole project without the need for expensive tools or advanced Project Management skills.

This workshop is based upon a step – by – step approach to implement a Lite version of ITIL so that you will be able to follow the plan and implement your own version of ITIL Lite when you return to your organization. The approach is logical and simplifies the often dark and complicated world of ITIL v3. Learn to explode the myths and expose the rational. At all times the Workshop follows the flow and structure of the ITIL Lite book in fact the workshop could be described as bringing the ITIL Lite to life.
